SEDIMENTI

Sedimenti is one of the sections of PETROLIO - Uomo e Natura nell’era dell’Antropocene, a project implemented within Matera 2019 – European capital of culture, curated by Associazione Basilicata 1799.

This section was developed through a creative journey in four artistic residencies in Florence, Beirut, Ravenna, and Matera, and has led to the conception of a collective piece for public spaces, created by four choreographers and two musicians from different countries around the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain, and Lebanon). This initiative has been an opportunity for young artists of the Mediterranean area to meet among themselves and with programmers, critics, and the Italian and European audiences. The choreographers have given light to a dance that combines individual experiences, visions, and aesthetics into a collective piece. The Mediterranean is currently the backdrop of conflicts, and social, political, and religious movements, which from one shore to the other seem to question that proneness to encounter and dialogue among peoples, cultures, and know-hows that are so inherent in this “sea between the lands.” The idea of drafting, sharing, and co-creating methods among makers with different origins, visions, and artistic backgrounds, is therefore a crucial cultural challenge, as well as the possible trigger for new trajectories of choreographic research.
